RISU Head Boy Candidate

Dario Plovyt

Year 12 · Secondary School · Kampala, Uganda

Student Council Sports Captain Community Leader RISU Alumnus

Who I Am

I'm Dario, a Year 12 student who has called Rainbow International School home for the past 12 years. Growing up in Kampala and being part of this incredible, diverse community has shaped who I am — and made me deeply committed to giving back to it.

From my earliest days at RISU, I have been drawn to the idea that a school is only as great as the people within it. I have had the privilege of representing my peers in [previous roles], and through those experiences, I have learnt that real change happens when people feel genuinely listened to.

Outside the classroom, I'm passionate about [sports/arts/interests]. These pursuits have taught me discipline, collaboration, and the importance of showing up — lessons I carry into every aspect of my leadership.

Why Head Boy?

I am not running for the title. I am running because I believe our school can be even better — for every student regardless of year group, background, or interests. I want to be the bridge between students and school leadership; someone you can walk up to in the corridor and say "Dario Plovyt, here's an idea."

As Head Boy, I will hold myself accountable to you. My door — and this website — will always be open.

"A school that listens is a school that grows."

My Platform

Mission & Commitments

This is what I promise to fight for, every single day as your Head Boy.

My mission is to build a Rainbow International School where every student feels seen, heard, and empowered — a community that celebrates its diversity, invests in its people, and rises together. As Head Boy, I will be your voice, your advocate, and your partner in making RISU the best it can be. — Dario Plovyt, Head Boy Candidate 2026

My Commitments to You

01

Open Communication Channels

Establish a regular "Student Voice" forum where any pupil — from Year 7 to Year 13 — can raise issues directly with school leadership, with me as the facilitator and advocate.

02

Mental Health & Wellbeing Initiative

Partner with school counsellors to create a peer support network, reduce stigma around mental health, and introduce regular wellbeing check-ins integrated into school life.

03

Celebrate Our Diversity

RISU's strength is its multicultural community. I will champion a Cultural Showcase term, monthly themed lunches, and inter-community collaborations that celebrate who we all are.

04

Improve Facilities & Spaces

Advocate with school management for improved student common areas, better sports facilities access, and dedicated spaces for clubs and creative activities.

05

Accountability & Transparency

Publish a monthly Head Boy report — visible to students and staff — detailing what has been raised, what's being actioned, and what has been achieved. No empty promises.

06

Expand Enrichment Opportunities

Work with teachers to introduce new clubs, societies, and extracurricular programmes — driven by what students actually want, not just what already exists.

Candidate Speech

Dario's Speech

Delivered to the RISU community — students, staff, and parents — as part of the Head Boy election process.

Good morning, everyone. I know the drill — you're sitting there, I'm standing here, and you're probably counting the seconds until you can go check if the canteen actually has something edible today. Before penning this down, the first thing I did was Google "How to make students pay attention." Teachers say it's impossible, but the internet said: "Tell your voters the truth to keep them hooked."

The truth is, my two opponents are some of my best friends. Running against them feels less like a school election and more like a Netflix drama — just with a much lower budget and significantly more IGCSE-related stress. But while world leaders out there are playing a dangerous game of "might is right," I want this school to be our sanctuary — a place where the only "war" we have is over the last slice of pizza.

My name is Dario. For those who don't know me, I'm not an alien or a secret agent, though I've been around long enough to feel like part of the furniture. Here is how we are going to Dream, Believe, and Achieve a better school together.

DREAM: A Sanctuary from the Storm

While our phones and social media bombard us with depressing news from sunrise to sunset, I dream of a school that is a safe haven where it is quiet enough to think. I dream of a "Global Home" where your nationality, religion, or ethnicity is a bridge to a friend, not a barrier to belonging. Practically, this means cleaning up the "ugly parts" of our grounds to make the campus feel more like a home, and creating safe relaxation spaces where we can actually unplug from the world's noise.

BELIEVE: The Power of Your Voice

I believe in leadership that serves rather than "bosses people about." True leadership is about influence and character, not just a title. I want to be your approachable adult advocate, taking your concerns directly to the staff. I propose monthly anonymous feedback forms and a regular update showing you exactly what the Senior Leadership Team has changed based on your input. Drop-in advice chairs where you can chat with a supportive volunteer peer when the world gets too loud. And student-led innovation — encouraging more student-led clubs and expanding Interhouse competitions to include modern fields like coding and debating.

ACHIEVE: Progress We Can Actually Feel

We achieve excellence when we lift each other up, not by competing against one another. We will focus on Academic Solidarity — Exam Skills Workshops where Year 12s and 13s mentor Year 11s, and a Textbook Exchange Depot where we share resources instead of hoarding them. New Traditions, starting the "Senior Sunset" camp-out 100 days before graduation to create memories that last a lifetime. Spirit & Joy — expanding Spirit Week to include dressing like your favourite teacher or wearing your favourite football jersey. Menu Upgrades — lobbying to get pizza, Yojus, and yogurt back on the menu, because you can't run the world on an empty stomach. And Efficiency — removing unnecessary assemblies so we stop missing vital lessons, and a reward system where top behaviour lets you skip the tuck shop line.

My name is Dario. That's Dario — repeated because repetition is key for your vote! I'm not here to be a "Supreme Commander," but a leader who models the way with heart and integrity.

Let's Dream, Believe, and Achieve our sanctuary together. Thank you.

Filter:
📖
Academic
Peer-Led Exam Skills Workshops
Upper sixth students mentoring those preparing for their IGCSEs — sharing proven revision strategies, past paper techniques, and the kind of honest advice that only someone who's just been through it can give. Paired with a rotating display of motivational posters around school to keep spirits high during exam season.
📋
Welfare
Monthly Anonymous Student Feedback Form
A structured, anonymous form sent to students every month — a safe space to flag what isn't working, what needs rethinking, and what could be better. No names, no pressure, just honest voices shaping a better school.
📰
Community
A Regular "What's Changed" School Update
A transparent, student-facing update — monthly or weekly — that clearly communicates what has happened, what decisions SLT has made, and what is coming next. Because a school community works best when everyone is genuinely kept in the loop.
🏆
Events
New Inter-House Competitions: Coding & Debating
Inter-house rivalry shouldn't be limited to the sports field. A Coding Competition and a Debating Competition would give every student — regardless of athletic ability — the chance to compete, represent their house, and shine in front of the whole school.
🎯
Community
More Student-Led Clubs & Societies
The best clubs are the ones students actually want. A clear, supported pathway for any student to propose, launch, and lead their own club — turning RISU's enrichment programme into something truly driven by the people it's meant to serve.
🌟
Events
Teacher Appreciation Week
A dedicated week where students celebrate the staff who make a real difference — with student-voted awards for Most Helpful, Most Encouraging, Funniest, and Best at Explaining. A chance to say thank you in a way that is fun, heartfelt, and genuinely well-deserved.
🍕
Food & Snacks
Upgrade the Menu
Pizza at snack time. Yojus back on Fridays. Yoghurt and milk restored to the daily menu. These aren't luxury requests — they're the kind of small, considered improvements that make the school day noticeably better for everyone.
Sports
Organised Lunchtime Sports
Structured and open sports sessions during the lunch break — a simple way to keep students active, reduce stress, and build connections across year groups in a relaxed, informal setting.
🔕
Welfare
Make Assemblies Count
Assemblies should be purposeful, not routine. By removing unnecessary ones, students reclaim valuable lesson time, and the assemblies that do happen carry more meaning — because when everything is important, nothing is.
🎭
Events
Bigger, Bolder Spirit Week
Expand Spirit Week with more creative dress-up days — come as your favourite teacher, wear your football club's jersey, or rep any sports kit you love. More themes means more students engaged, more laughter in the corridors, and a school that truly feels alive.
🌅
Tradition
Senior Sunset — A New RISU Tradition
One hundred days before the graduating class leaves RISU for the last time, they gather for a camp-out and sunset celebration together. A new tradition that marks the closing of one chapter with the people who shared it — something worth starting, and worth keeping.
🏅
Welfare
Rewards for Positive Behaviour
Students who consistently earn positives on the behaviour tracker should be recognised for it. A tangible reward — such as priority at the tuck shop queue — gives positive conduct real currency and encourages a culture where doing the right thing is genuinely worth it. Subject to SLT discussion.
